Its been a pleasure serving you all and hopefully, we will continue this theatre-loving tradition with our new Artsoc EXCOs. For all musical-enthusiasts, if you are considering a role on the Artsoc committee, don’t forget to submit your manifesto or any questions regarding the election by the 10th of February.  (It’s not as daunting as it seems)

Lastly, we have a collaboration with the Singapore society which will come up later in the email.

2. Reviewers wanted!

The musicals to be reviewed this week are:

i) Jersey Boys

ii) Goodnight Mr Tom

5. Musical Reviews

Below are the reviews for the musicals/shows

This concert-cum-musical is distinctive and sensational; it encompasses the world’s best tracks with some stunning costumes, dazzling dance numbers and incredible signature moves, beguiling its audiences for over two-hours with non-stop hits that pay homage to the world-class spectacle of Jackson’s legendary live performances. And yes, it ends with Thriller!

If you think you know the Wicked Witch of the West, think again…

When Dorothy famously triumphed over the Wicked Witch, we only ever heard one side of the story. Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Far beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, he terrorizes the opera company for the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mesmerising score along with jaw-dropping scenery and breathtaking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life.

5a. Singapore Society Musical-esque

The ‘Singapore Society Major Event 2013′ is meant to celebrate and showcase our uniquely Singaporean culture with the inclusion of such Singaporean elements as Singlish, hawker food, NS army references and more. As a gesture of goodwill to the community of which we are a part of for the duration of our studies, we will be donating all proceeds from the production to a chosen charity. It would be a great opportunity for your members to have a night out, experience a new culture and donate to charity at the same time! The event details are as follows:

Synopsis: Four Imperial College students who have just finished their exams and are two days away from flying back home to Singapore. At the end-of-exam party, they have one drink too many and chaos ensues. They wake up in some unknown location, with no recollection of what happened the night before. What’s worse is that one of their friends is missing and he was the designated “sober” one to hold all their passports. They embark on a journey to put the pieces of their memory back together, bumbling through drunken students, wax statues and even the cast of the Lion King!  Will they find their missing friend? With only a day before their flight back home, will they make it back to Singapore? Come on down to find out!

 Date: 2 February 2013

Time: 7.30 pm (Registration opens 6.45 pm)

Venue: Imperial College Great Hall
Ticket Price: 10GBP

Hello from AY12/13 committee

Hello everyone

Let me introduce myself, I am Chris Chew, the President of Artsoc for AY12/13. On behalf of my committee I will like to first say a big “THANK YOU” to Connie and her team for encouraging and guiding us. We have big shoes to fill but I am confident that my committee and I will be prepared in the coming year to provide everyone with a diverse selection of musicals and performances.

In fact, we have been working hard this summer to seek collaborations, sponsorships and most importantly, quality tickets at affordable prices. Tentatively, our first meeting will be on 10 October at G65, 12.30-1.30pm so do keep your calender free. We will release more details closer to the start of term so do keep a look out. Hope to see you all soon!
