Doha Metro Project
A high-level presentation of the Doha Metro Project, with special focus on the section called ‘Red Line, North’. The talk will concentrate on the importance of understanding the geology when planning the TBM bore. It will also discuss what happens when disaster strikes, and water starts pouring into the TBM and tunnels that are already completed and highlights how to deal with a flooding incident during tunnel construction, how to recover and what mitigations were implemented, hereunder the need for redesign.
Presentation on turning the flooding incident into a project benefit – the introduction of an Emergency shaft. When disaster strikes for the second time and your new emergency shaft is flooded, the options considered to deal with the increasing water inflow. Presentation will cover how to understand a disaster scenario, and the remedial works implemented and the data received to understand the incident; hereunder the lesson learnt in borehole logging and involving the right people and procedures.
Morten Collin, Senior Project Director; COWI UK
Morten is currently heading the Design for Tunnels, Geotechnical Engineering and MEP for the Silvertown project connecting Greenwich and Silvertown with a dual bored traffic tunnel under the River Thames. Morten has 25 years of experience in design and supervision, hereunder the last 15 years as Project Director on major international infrastructure projects (Airports, Metro, Bridge and Tunnel Projects) in the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Ho Chi Minh City and currently in London.
Martin Charlton, Practice Lead London Tunnels; COWI UK
Martin leads the COWI London Tunnels Team currently involved in the tunnel systems designs for Silvertown, HS2, Lower Thames Crossing, Thames Tideway and Deep Tunnel Sewage System (Singapore). Martin has over 30 years experience in design and construction across Water, Chemical/Petrochem, Nuclear and Infrastructure sectors, including working in the Middle East, Europe and Russia.
