Hyde Park Relays 2020

Welcome to Hyde Park Relays

Hyde Park Relays is the UK’s largest annual student relay; running for the 71st time in 2020! As it name indicates, it is a 5km relay race that takes place in Hyde Park in central London every year and allows you to run a stunning route passing some of London’s iconic landmarks such as the Serpentine lake, Marble Arch and Hyde Park Corner, you might even catch a glimpse of Liz!

This year the race will take place on Saturday the 8th February 2020.

The Route is as follows:

It is open to everyone: whether you are studying at Imperial, another uni in the UK or abroad, or want to run with some friends or colleagues, we have space for all of you! Simply make a team of 5 (men’s and mixed teams) or 4 (women’s teams) and we’ll take care of the rest!

You can buy your entries here (ENTRIES COMING SOON):

Best of all, the race is open to runners of all abilities: whether you are a frequent runner, an experienced marathon finisher or have never even taken your brand new running shoes out of the cupboard, everyone is welcome for the whole experience. After the run in the morning, all the teams are invited for food, an awards ceremony and of course the legendary after-party at our very own student union. Rumour has it that the HPR after-party was the best night of the year, anywhere in the world – not something you’d want to miss out on!

Prizes:

You will be competing for the traditional engraved relay baton trophies for the following categories:

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd Internal Teams (men’s, women’s)
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd Fastest Legs (men’s, women’s)
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd External Teams (men’s, women’s)
  • 1st International Team (men’s, women’s)

In addition to the relay batons, we’ve also recovered the Hyde Park Relays trophy! It’s a massive cup, and it will be awarded to the fastest team whose name will be engraved on the cup. Needless to say, this comes with eternal glory…

And last but not least, the Team Costume Prizes. New for 2020, this year’s best out-fitted team will see themselves walking away with a prize that will certainly ensure they have a cracking after-party, although perhaps they won’t see themselves making it in to lectures on Monday morning…

This could also be your chance to meet running legends as the Hyde Park Relays has frequently attracted world-renowned athletes such as David Moorcraft, the former 5000m World Record holder, Sebastian Coe who won the Relay’s fastest leg in 1978 and then went on two years later, to win the 1500m gold and 800m silver at the Moscow Olympics.

This is also a chance for university teams to battle it out against each other only a week after the BUCS Cross-Country Championships in Edinburgh. A chance to take down the likes of Loughborough and Bath, with teamwork taking paramount importance.

Usual suspects for winning the relays this year include hosts Imperial College Cross Country and Athletics Club, local rivals such as UCL, King’s, LSE and St. George’s Hospital, as well traditional rivals Oxford and Cambridge, Portsmouth, Southampton, and many more from throughout the UK and European teams such as Poznan.

The race will be held on Saturday 8th February 2020 and will start at 13:00.

Registration will take place in the Union building between 10:00-12:00.
