What's New?

...Life Jim, but not as we know it...

14th-24th Oct 09

Some progress is slowly being made with the re-organisation (still in progress, unfortunately) of the minutes, and also the eventual updating of some of the more important pages, such as the external contact details.

6th Jul 08

In a fit of efficiency, I've been doing a few updates:

  • The front page is now php-based, so gives the next event and the webcam image - plus it links to the database search.. Feedback appreciated.
  • The history pages are now done for the year. Again, additions appreciated.

 12th Apr 00

"The Edge of Tomorrow", the 1991 freshers' fanzine, is up. A great long list of book and comic shops... I wonder how many of them are still there? Also, see this was when we not only had a Projectionist (a post about to be retired), but were begging for an Assistant Projectionist! But still, it all looks very familiar...

 2nd Mar 06

Next installment of the Quotes List is up.

There are also Picocon 23 photos from Kvetch and LJPK.

And while I'm here... now is a good time to add your library requests to the Request List, to influence spending of our Picocon money...

 2nd Oct 05

Hello to all you new people, come and see our library during Freshers' Fair, or if you miss us then, pop along any weekday lunchtime :)
Also you are very welcome to participate on this site: you can check out what our library has to offer, or explore the Social side of the site to see who we are, read/post to the newsboard and see upcoming events.

This year, membership has been simplified. There is only one type of membership, costing £8, equivalent to the old Video membership.

I've also done an update of the various history pages on the Library side of the site. They're quite sparse, so if anyone wants to add to them (please!) just email me stuff ;)

 22nd Mar 05

AGM Minutes are available for your perusal. The lucky winners are:

 13th Mar 05

 7th Mar 05

 16th Feb 05

Minutes of 02/15 are up.

 5th Feb 05

Minutes of 01/31 are up. Also I've prodded the login-cookie code so that it should actually be working now (sorry). As usual with such things, don't login with 'remember me' on untrusted machines.

 25th Jan 05

Details of the next Book of the Month are up. This time you have the opportunity to read up on some of the authors visiting us at Picocon next month. I've put together a short collection of links to online stuff by the authors, so you don't even need to go down to the library/read a whole book. Enjoy

 13th Jan 05

Minutes of the last meeting are up. Don't forget the next Book of the Month meeting next monday!

 22nd Dec 04

 7th Oct 04

Updated the Picocon page with the date and details of our second guest - Gwyneth Jones.

 5th Oct 04

The Freshers Wyrm (introductory newsletter) is up, for those who didn't pick up a copy at our Freshers Fair stall.

 3rd Oct 04

There is now a Book of the Month page for the new discussion group. We'll be starting off with the 1954 Retro-hugos. Have a look to see the books to read! Links to discussions will be appearing on that page soon.

I've added the library stats for 2003-2004, and the cumulative stats for 1999-2004 - see what others are reading/watching.

I've also updated the New Books listing.

 26th Sept 04

What with the automatic short updates, we've been a bit lazy about putting proper ones in. Well, at least the news board has been popular!

The committee page has been updated with this year's committee (at least, those elected so far!).

I've uploaded a new version of DarkerIRC - hopefully this one will be rather more stable across different configurations than the last version we tried, because it is really much better in functionality than Jirc! Let me know if you have difficulties with it (Jirc is still there as backup).

I've also been doing quite a bit of tidying and fixing links. Gallery is, I hope, working again! :) Picocon 21 has been moved into the History - anyone got any photos to put up?

I've also gone through and fixed the history pages so they work in Firefox; sorted out a couple of errors but we still need content for the years 2002/2003 and 2003/2004. Anyone? They're all starting to blur into one for me, i must admit :-| And I think one of you new generation icsf (last 3 years) should write it.

Karne has added some RSS stuff for the news board and auto-updates - see this news item - which is particularly fun in the most recent Firefox.

 5th March 04

The March Issue of Wyrmtongue is now up. It includes a copy of the Award Winners leaflet, which you can also pick up in the library. Lots of books, comics and video-related recommendations and reviews. Go see.

We have also been buying a phenomenal amount of new stuff since Picocon, including the complete Tolkien laundry lists (thank you dave). So check out the new books shelf, both virtual and real.

 5th February 04

There have been a whole lot of updates (see right) but nothing on here officially for a while.

So anyway, I've just put up the most recent Wyrmtongue - go there to hear more about Picocon, as well as the main Picocon page! Because all of you are coming to Picocon this Saturday, right? We've got loads of guests and games scheduled, and it's our main event each year - don't miss out!

 11th October 03

The first issue of Wyrm for the year is up in the library section.

The last year of Wyrms is now (i believe) finally completely online, as well.

 5th October 03

A new term is upon us, so as is tradition the day is spent fixing bits of the site that i've been meaning to get round to all summer. For any newbies who've made it thus far, WELCOME! This is the site. Is it not nifty? Have a poke around, register and tell us a bit about yourself, post any news you have, add links to your favourite sites, request books and stuff, drop by irc and have a chat.... the website is your oyster. Or something like that.
Anyways, todays updates include a couple of unexciting spelling/layout corrections, adding alt tags with a bit more description in them and updating some of the babble. The website bugs board link has been moved and is now linked to from the "Info about this website" page (points towards the 'i' button in the top bar). I've also removed a couple of users who never did more than claim a username and haven't logged in again in months and have editted a couple of people's bios to correct their year's of study etc. How has this taken me all day?

 5th October 03

This year's (or is that last year's?) fanzine is up - head over to the Library section to see it.

 19th July 03

A few more bug fixes and tweaks for this weekend's update. Most exciting is the new bots faq to help all those who are confused by all the bots on the irc channels, thanks to Steve for writing it up. I've also switched the committee pages to display the info for people holding the posts next year. Many of whom need to update their bios and blurbs accordingly.

 13th July 03

A selection of housekeeping things, such as adding some new html tag support and auto paragraphing and the option for larger text boxes on the news board. Also added a web developers board for comments and suggestions on this website.
Karne has also got the RSS feeds working for the news board, so those on the icsf lists should get some regular updates and if you want to add a feed of the day's news stories to your live journal you can do so using the rss feed - icsfnewsboard from ../rss/news_lj.php. Yay!

 5th May 03

Have spent an extremely frustrating bank holiday afternoon trying to get the links database working. On the plus side it now works, but despite lots of swearing the new funkiness that Karne has been helping with will not work. This is almost certainly due exclusively to my own stupidity. Maybe it'll happen next weekend. But until then you can amuse yourself with browsing the links database, adding links to your bio favourites folder and all manner of exciting stuff.

 27th April 03

The brand new all singing, all dancing icsf website goes live after months of blood sweat and swearing. The site is now fully interactive - you can create your own homepages, request books for the library, post and read sf news items, use the links database... the list goes on! Most of the exciting stuff requires registering - but don't be afraid, it's all very painless. So have a wander round, have a play and let us know what you think.

Previous Updates - previous updates to the site... seemed a shame to get rid of them
