Website Development Board

...it's not a bug! It's a feature!...

This is an extenstion of the bugs board allowing website users to comment on any bugs they find with the website, things that they just don't get, additional features they'd like to see or just to tell the web developers how brilliant they are.

A few things of note:

  • _config.php now stores server-specific details (eg database), and is automatically included in functions.php
  • Site admins can now change the committee through an Admin link on the committee index page. This is better than editing the database directly, cos it also updates the status (member/committee) of the users.
  • New darkerirc applet is up, and seems very nice from my initial testing
  • Page load image triggers (below menu) added/fixed
  • Quick links dropdown fixed
  • Added Jon Courtenay Grimwood bio to the Picocon page, and moved old picocon to History
  • Gallery is working again! (I hope...)

this guide could do with updating - particularly since Forbidden Planet's moved! We must take a photo next bookcrawl.Comment on this

 Links database

Posted by John Kirk (16th Oct 2004, 12:37)

If you're not logged in, the "add comment" icon for a link gives a "page not found" error. Ditto for the "login" link on the links index page. (Looks like the wrong path to the PHP scripts.) Also got an error message when adding a comment (after logging in elsewhere on the site) - see "more content". (read the rest of the article)Comment on this

 Newsboard changes

Posted by dormouse (17th Oct 2004, 22:16)

The code behind the news and reviews boards has completely changed (been restructured). However it should look and behave almost exactly the same as before, so if you find any broken things or peculiarities let me know.

After a week or so if it's stable i'll make this bugs board use the new code as well. Comment on this

 Target 'main'

Posted by karne (18th Nov 2005, 12:36)

There seems to be an intermitant bug in how firefox handles target="main", occasionally it sets this to target the top level frame instead. Get it to do it reliably isn't easy so we can't really bug fix this short of just globally replacing all the 'main' tags with something else. Comment on this

 Gallery system hates me

Posted by Kvetch (5th Mar 2006, 12:44)

I've been trying to upload photos of the new Dalek build, but I get all sorts of errors (one is something like "when trying to check whether to resize, cannot open stream to /util.php".

I didn't have any problem uploading my picocon pictures.

Yes, next time I make a bug report I'll check the error message rather more carefully.Comment on this

 Anonymous comments

Looking at the problems gaspode has been having recently, it might make sense to either ban anonymous comments or log the IP address. Maybe this could be turned into a user-specific feature (for comments on bio pages)?Comment on this

 Can't edit news post

Posted by John Kirk (21st Aug 2010, 10:49)

I just added a news post, then realised that all the lines were lumped together, so I tried to add line breaks (<br />). When I click the Update button, it says:
"Fatal error: Using $this when not in object context in /home/www/htdocs/scc/icsf/php/classes/posts/Post.php on line 520"Comment on this

 News Board Layout

Posted by John Kirk (10th Jul 2003, 14:39)

Would it be easy to have a more "traditional" interface for the news board? I.e. a list where you have subject/author/date-time all on one line? That way, you could fit more articles onto one page. This shouldn't necessarily be the only interface, but I think it would be a useful option. (You could have a checkbox, or some kind of icon, to indicate the presence/absence of spoilers.)Comment on this

 Society history - 2002/2003

Posted by John Kirk (23rd Jul 2003, 23:52)

Now that the committee page (bio index) has been updated for the next academic year (2003/2004), this would probably be a good time to add a new page to the "Histories and Epics" section of the website, for the last academic year (2002/2003). Aside from the actual committee list, maybe prod the chair/vice-chair to supply some content, i.e. a summary of significant events during the year?Comment on this
