ConventionsThere are many, many conventions in the UK and around the world. They vary wildly between professionally organised events which run for days, to one day small gatherings of local fan groups. Unfortunately the Picocon pages don't seem to be working, but we're trying to sort that out. This is the archive of a fanzine by people who organise conventions, it ran for about 11 years and lots of the articles are available to read. This year's EasterCon (British National Science Fiction Convention) is held in Hinckley, Leicestershire between 13th and 16th of April 2001. The Guests are Stephen Baxter, Lisanne Norman, Michael Scott Rohan and Claire Brialey and Mark Plummer (from Fishlifter Press). The National Students Science Fiction Convention (Unicon), this year held at the University of York. The guests are Anne Gay, Stan Nicholls, Douglas Hill, Pete Morwood, Diane Duane and is between the 24th - 26th August 2001.
The 59th World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon) to be held Thursday 30 August - Monday 3 September 2001, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The guests of honour include Greg Bear, Stephen Youll and Gardner Dozois. The World Fantasy Convention is an annual gathering (almost a reunion) of professionals, collectors, and others interested in the field of Light and Dark Fantasy art and literature. The main feature of the convention is the World Fantasy Awards. This year's is to be held in Montreal, Quebec, November 1-4, 2001.
Damn Fine Convention sets out to take the weirdest, most imaginative and fun ideas of the TV series "Twin Peaks" and hold one of the most far out Science Fiction Conventions ever to take place. 3rd May to 6th May, 2002 in Shepperton, Surrey. A joint Blakes' 7 and Babylon 5 convention run every other year. Redemption '01 was back in February, but Redemption '03 will be held from the 21st to the 23rd of February 2003 at the Ashford International Hotel, Ashford, Kent, UK and will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Blakes 7 and the 10th anniversary of B5.
UK in 2005 is a bid to bring the Worldcon back to Europe, and specifically Glasgow, Scotland, in 2005. This site is the home of the bid on the Internet. We expect to make as much use as possible of the Web and other new media throughout the bid and right up to the convention itself. |
