icsf Fanzines
"...go on, write something for the fanzine. Or draw something! What, you're a scientist and gave up the arts at age 15? That's what they all say..." - The perils of being fanzine editor at IC
The icsf Fanzines are (usually) annual magazines produced by members of the society (fanzine=magazine produced by fans). They have contained anything from fiction, artwork, and poems, to reviews and essays of sf/fantasy-related topics, and crosswords.
As far as we can tell, the first fanzines of the Science Fiction society at Imperial were called NME, and were probably between 1979-1984. There was a gap of 4 years between WHJC and The Waking Edge, followed by several years of regular fanzines with 'Edge'-related titles. From 1994 onwards, the fanzines have been named after a scientific term, chosen by the Editor.
Submissions:
We are always looking for submissions of stories, poems, articles, reviews, comics, pictures etc. etc. In more recent years, the content of the fanzines has shifted towards mostly fiction, but don't let that stop you if you want to write a factual piece.
If you would like to submit anything to this year's Fanzine, then get in contact with the Editor (Ben).
